Hi everyone iam new here, my name is Damo and this is my Mack.

Its a 1973 R795 model with a 8v92 detroit, 10 speed mack box and camelback suspension.

I've never restored a truck before so it will be interesting.

Any info on the R700's would be great thanks.

Here's some more photos.

welcome aboard,

looks like a nice project/toy you have got yourself. What are your plans for it?

Having lived through a pandemic I now understand all the painting of fat people on couches!

Hi, yes its the one from kal.

Plans are full restoration.

There's a bit of rust between the double skinned chassis rails so it will need to be fixed. So i will strip it right down do it properly.

I was thinking of painting it black with gold pinstriping but everyone does black so if anyone has any old photos of any r700's in any company colors i might go that way insted, i would like to stick to the 70's era look.

As it is though it drives great and sounds sweet, it just needs twin stacks to make it sound a bit better. ;D

G'day Damion,Welcome to the forum.Nice truck.
Do you have any history on it ? It may be the current colour but it looks vaguely
familiar from some years ago.
I know it has a GM in it now,and it could have been built new like that.Makes it quite rare if it was. There were a few around.Do you know the chassis no.? The chassis designation at the beginning of the chassis no. sequence (R778 RS **** for example) will tell you whether the GM was original.
I'm not the full bottle on the designations (but there'e plenty on here that are)
but the second digit (R7*8) is the engine make.Cummins used the number 6 I think.

Also your truck has a Cummings Tropical roof/sunvisor.They were made in Brisbane by the same mob who made Cummings sleepers and bullbars. All of which were Mack factory fit through the 70s.
I would suggest that the current bunk is early 80s vintage, geniune Mack,ex Superliner.

Welcome, Damo, I hope you enjoy it here. You've certainly got a cracker to start into this hobby. Good luck with it. You'll find a number of members on here with Rs and a lot of us who simply love them so you should feel right at home. Again, welcome.

Hi Damo,
R795 is a Maxidyne V8, 325 hp. An 8V71 would be an R773, an 8V92 would be an R770. R700's with Mack turbocharged V8's had one air cleaner mounted on the pass side. The tropical roof is a Coolking as NT stated, they also produced one for the B model. Johnsons of Tambo had at least one early R700 with a coolking roof, same paint as yours.
Jeff.

Hi Damo, looks pretty good, will be interested in watching the resto. There were a few here from new with 8v92's fitted new ex factory and one or two repowered with same as the 375's expired. Here's a photo of a local logger from the 70's, this one was a Mack 375.
