Clarendon Classic Rally Sydney

Well this great event is on again this month on the 21st & 22nd of September. IT is a huge rally with plenty of trucks, tractors, engines and stem. If you can it is one you need to see as it won't disappoint.
Clarendon is out the back of Sydney between Richmond and Windsor and is held at the Hawkesbury
Showground opposite the horse racing track and over the road from the air force base.
We are taking a mower or two and will be only there on the Saturday but thats better than not at all.

Incorporating the the Kenworth Klassic Truck Show, and Model and Hobby Show, and steam train rides from Richmond by Lachlan Valley Railway. Entry $10 adults and $5 children. 8am-4pm Saturday & 3pm Sunday.
Strictly no alcohol or dogs. Companion Dogs allowed.

A great family weekend to see running and static machines, big and small. A huge annual display of classic machinery including stationary engines, cars, tractors, steam engines, double decker bus rides, and over 400 trucks. Second hand stalls, free jumping area for kids. Opens 8am both days, closes 4pm Sat & 3pm Sun. No alcohol or dogs permitted (except companion animals). Incorporates the Kenworth Klassic Truck Show, and Model & Hobby Show.

The annual Clarendon Classic Machinery Rally is on again this year, on the weekend of September 21 & 22, open 8am to at least 3pm both days. It's a great weekend where hundreds of antique stationary engines are running for everyone to see. Normal entry is cheap at $10 adults and $5 kids. It's a fun day out for young and old to talk about the machines we will be pulling out of our sheds to bring history alive that weekend.
Last year over 5000 people came to see everything mechanical, from single cylinder engines over 100 years old, Classic tractors and cars, steam engines, model displays and stalls, a running aircraft radial engine, plus big diesels up to our now famous 106 litre Turbo Blackstone diesel called “Tiny”. There's also the usual contingent of antique stationary engines running, as well as the steam engines, log splitting, and chainsawing displays. There's also a tractor and vehicle trek Sunday morning around the district, and vintage bus rides into Richmond and back.
Apart from displays of anything mechanical, loads of classic cars and Kenworth trucks arrive to display, smaller groups motorcycles, ex-military vehicles, re-enactment groups dressed in WWI or WWII uniforms, and chainsaw displays, and a grand parade of Tractors, there are themes each year to encourage collectors to bring certain engines along. For 2019 the selected themes are Fiat made tractors, and all engines over 100 years old.
There's free fun rides for the kids, tractor pulling displays to see, food and collectors stalls, and last year we had over 450 classic tractors, cars, bikes, and trucks to see. The local Rotary Club provides a BBQ to buy lunch from, and aside from other food stalls, and the SAMC uses the proceeds to run the rally next year and make a sizable donation to charity. For 2019 the chosen charity is Little Wings. Little Wings will also be selling corn on the cob to eat.
It's a great weekend for the family right next to Clarendon Railway Station and there will be a Steam train rides for travel to Richmond and back, with tickets available via our website.

Cobbadog, I'm going to try and get up there on Saturday also.

We will be taking 2 mowers, a Model 1 Victa all painted up and a Ransome Simms & Jefferies barrel mower in its working clothes that was a project of a Family friend who unfortunately took his own life. His wife asked if we would like to have it and we could not say yes quick enough. Our notice board for this treasure is that we display the mower on behalf of his Family and with pride.
The really sad part is that his son did exactly the same a year later.

Dee and I will wandering around the grounds and I will have a Rusty Iron Rally shirt on and I have long grey whiskers.

It is very sad that your friend and his Son took their own lives. It must have been devastating to their family. It makes you wonder if there was some medical or psychological reason for both of them to do that.

Unfortunately I cannot make it to Clarendon, I have never got there yet but maybe one day I will. I was looking forward to seeing a grey bearded old codger accompanied by a lovely lady. Those RSJ mowers are pretty rare these days, they used to be among the best of the old Pommy mowers. I have seen photos of their very early mowers that were STEAM powered and almost as big as a tractor.

Thank you for your kind words regarding the owner and his son. It got eve worse when his wife who had a terribly bad heart disease for many years also left us and this left their Daughter who fortunately has good mental health as well as being a very healthy girl with a family of her own.
Here is a couple of pics of it when it arrived here. It needed the electrics sorting and a few bits and pieces and now I have a lathe I will now make a bush for the crank starter mechanism which wobbles and throws the chain off.

Here are some photos from Clarendon. It's a much bigger show than I imagined with a lot of stationary engines, steam engines and tractors as well as trucks. There was also the Clarendon Klassic Kenworth gathering with something like 300 KWs there (my guess) new and old (I think; the KWs all look the same to me).
