Somedays you just want to kill someone.
After rust treating, painting and prepairing my Dodge truck for its new power plant I finally got the 281 installed by myself. The engine looks amazing sitting in the Bay.
One small problem! The water pump pulley sits further forward than the slant six did, now the radiator doesn't fit without hitting the fan.
It seems the only way to resolve the problem is to install an Electric water pump (removing the mechanical) and then fitting twin thermo fans.
I guess after removing the mechanical water pump I get some HP back. Used thermo fans are relatively cheap. So, if anyone out there has fans or an EWP for sale drop me a message.
Thanks, Tony.

Hey Tony, post a picture of the pump and the radiator support, you might find there is different length shafts on the pump available or that one of these fellas on the forum has an idea to get around your problem.
I bet your not the first to experience it. ;)

Ended up using the slant six radiator. Removed the 2 pieces of C section steel that were holding the radiator in place. The radiator now sits further into the front clip/ grill. Had to have the bottom radiator outlet moved to the passenger side for the IH.
Can't run a mechanical fan, but the mechanical water pump stays.
Thermo fan on order.

Probably a good move as some years ago I put two fans through radiators on a 318.
Never use the same boss twice when changing water pumps!!
I ended up making a steel cage to stop the fan going forwards if it did come off again!!
Guess you can't call yours "genuine" any more though?

Ahhhh, if you look under the lid on an inter you will see the radiator is moved further forward than a dodge, had you used a inter front panel all would have been sweet, i have same prob when i put 453's into dodges,, just be watchfull with electric fans on a long pull, they cant get the temp down, i had 6 on my bedford, great until i came to a long drag,

Rob
