Old truck photos was created by Cunning Stunt
I caught up with a nice old fella the other day who I had met some years ago. Typically I was chasing a lead on a Commer which lead me to him and a bit of talk about the old days. His name is Al Richardson and his operation was immaculate. At 72 years old nothing has changed and he still runs a CH Mack carting steel.
He originally drove for Alan Hancock in Sydney steering a new 634 petrol Diamond T and later went on his own with the purchase of a 1958 Commer petrol which he had for about 8 years, obviously the only decent truck he owned
Later he bought a 2nd hand White 3000 and repowered it with a 6/53 GM but that truck was totalled 6 weeks later in a fatality. It was replaced with a brand new White Mustang and McGrath trailer followed by an R200 (6/53 GM), B61 Mack and then a succession of mainly Mack trucks. The following are a few of about 80 photos that Tony Petch has scanned and copied and there is about another 30 photos in Alans photo album that I will copy. Hope you enjoy, let me know if you want more.
Cheers
Bruce

This is the first R Model that Al had seen, at (I think) the Sydney Truck Show in 1971. It was black with "Black Beauty" on a sign in front of it. He bought it off the stand and had it repainted, seen here after delivery to him before its first run. I thought it would have been twin sticks but I think he said it was a 5 speed with an overdrive. He had a photo of it at the truck show in the Bulldog Bulletin magazine from the same year. He said that the MACK sign on the roof lit up.
Another R Model, bought new in 1978.

I'll do my best to post a heap of these photos today to give you a good cross section of what he had. These two are of Al's dad (on the right) with his Brockway, about 1930/31. The head on shot shows it brand new with Als Dad sitting on the RHS. Incidentally his father is shown walking along in front of the Commer in the first photo I put up.
