Just a general question, as so many people mention it, if Jacobs advise against using the brake for upshifts as quoted
"If the engine
brake is on,
shifting without using the clutch or
double-clutching (to use the engine
brake to reduce engine rpm--also

Then after a while they put an extra switch in the dash so you could select the amount of engine braking with the Jake.
Mobil had problems with the KW's fitted with 903 Cummins ... the tanker would start to drift out when empty under full engine braking, especially in the wet..
Frank from Friendly Transport had a major loss when coming home empty from Mildura, locked the drive under engine braking (KW COE with a 350 Cummins), finished up out in the middle of a paddock somewhere out near Calder, again a wet road.
Never had the problems though with the green colored oil leaking screamers .... probably too low in compression. ;D ;D ;D ;D

I think the Jakes rely on oil pressure Grumpy..
In order to maintain oil pressure you need oil,
.... on the inside of the engine...
That's probly why you only get Jakes for about 30 yards in ya Jimmy! :D

I drove a Mate's 3070 years ago, the 903 had done a camshaft which had been replaced, but the crap off the camshaft must have gone thorough the mains, had bugger all oil pressure at idle, and the Jakes worked like they do on a GM, as soon as it came back to idle the Jakes came off. True case, but it's a Cummins, LOL.

cam I doubt the shrapnel from the cam would damage the mains unless he forgot to fit the LF516 filter cos its got to go thru it to get to the mains!! I think the problem was no one wanted to do the mains on a in chassis cos it meant started and oilcooler removal to get the side bolts out plus ya came out lookin like al jolson at the finish so they would get 3-4 rebuilds with the old mains and eventually spin one I hated doin em but but allways did and i could sleep at night

Gotta Love the Jakes :D
Back in the day when I was driving Coaches up and down at a Vic snow resort, several times a day in a denning coach with a 671GM it was great having to run down the mountain on the Jakes UNTIL :-[

One afternoon Snow every where, All chained up on the drive and the B#^^*y muffler blew out :-[
I think everyone for 80 miles new I was coming off the Mountain. 8-)
Wasn't funny at the time, as it was rattling the snow from the tree tops, I think I had someone in a ute following me catching the possums as the dropped out of the trees ;D ;D

Cheers
