I read this today, only 64 pages I highly recommend to you all, lots of black and white photos of old trucks. I have read Tom Kruse's book too, Harry Ding sold the Birdsville mail run to Tom Kruse in 1948

A great story of the real pioneer of the outback truck runs.
Harry Ding was overtaken by the publicity Tom Kruse got in the the film and his subsequent celebrity status. Tom was just one of many operators of Ding owned or inspired remote runs - heroes all!
Interesting thing about "Back of Beyond" was Tom Kruse' voice was Ross Wood, the cameraman. Tom was judged to be too rough and low class in the days of fake English accents on Australian film, radio and even early television.
