The early years Pete's were imported thru Sydney n the Jokers name escapes me @ the mo
Pacific Car n Foundary the Owners of Peterbilt n Kenworth had a choice of the one truck for Australia n chose KW
the last local Peterbilt Truck importers
were Freestones@

Hey Swishy,

The "joker" was one Laurie O'Neill.

There's an older thread on here somewhere that talks about him and the deal he had back in the day to import em from the States. I think 10 trucks. Others here will know more details....

Mate Ivan Weise (spooks) in Alice bought one through Laurie O'Neil, couldn't get it off the ship because of a wharfies strike,sat for days waiting for it, Ivan and Ian Lovegrove had Northern Transport in Alice, started running to Adelaide, bit of a story about Laurie having some conflict with perhaps Kenworth, not sure of the story but know he had some problems, know he was the first to bring them in, same O'Neil family that had Australian Blue Metal, Les and son Dennis ran Fleetowners in Alice, big money mob.
