Awesome info guys- thanks very much.
We found that the lowest tank (the wet tank?) didn't t have any drain valve at all (!) so we've drained it and the amount of muck coming out has to be seen to be believed..
Anyway it has a drain now!.
So we'll keep on draining it, and all the other tanks too, every day that the truck is used, and see how that ends up. Hopefully we'll be able to finally get rid of all the gunk created by a thirty something year old compressor..
Then we'll go down the exhauster valve line suggested here on the forum, that seems like a brilliant idea.
We've decided to keep to diesel line hooked to the starter, for the moment, just because then it will be lubricated, like it's supposed to be. And keep an eye on the starter, I've only noticed it leaking once, it may be a bit of a once off. (yeah, I know, wishful thinking) but if it keeps happening we'll put a tap on it.
Once again may I say this forum is a fountain of great info and ideas, and it's a great thing to be a part of.
So ta!
Cheers
Richard
P.S I didn't need to put this photo in for any other reason that I'm showing off and jealous of all those lucky blokes who went to the Hume run!!!

Sme again
all tanks have a drain hole on m
well 99.99% of tanks do
Hope the lowest hole aint been used to tap into for anything as it will then pass the crud directly along the line n cause grief later
the 1st tank back from the compressor collects all the oil water condensation etc so u can drain it off from the bottom of tank.
if u're new drain cok is @ the lowest part of tank @ one end...park truck on incline n remove drain cok n let it drain overnight or until next use of beast
all the rubbers etc thru the air system R oil resistant n luv a bit of oil for lubrication...LOL...far better than haven water in there
