I had to do some homework to answer yes/no for A20. I know it as Sturt Hwy.
No, not A20.

OK, so the disguised beer sign made me think it was a border town. I thought it was a crimson sign with something like a Lion on it but I am not a beer fan, don't tell anyone.
Next guess Eyre Peninsula.

Your secrets out DodgeyD.
My first thoughts were up beyond the Flinders Ranges - Hawker, Copley etc but vegetation is all wrong for that (nor are they main truck routes). It's not an arid area. Looks familiar, or at least the fenced building does.
Sorry, that didn't contribute much.

The pace is hotting, and the field is narrowing.
No, not Eyre Peninsula.
Hawker: No
Copley: No
Princes Hwy: No
Murray Bridge - Mt Barker: No (on the old or the new).
I could put up a version with the beer sign showing, but it serves no purpose now: black emblem on a red background, an SA beer. We have narrowed the field to SA already.

Roderick loves trains, boats, bridges, ferries; what trip was he on? 80 kms inland, not arid, not Sturt hwy.
So back to questioning.
How about Goyder hwy?
Is it between (or at) Barmera & Overland Corner? Between (or at) OC and Morgan?
