Lang, Thank you for the very interesting pictures.. Do you have any idea what the half track tractor doing the pulling in one of your pictures is????? We had both Linn's and Lombards (originally steam powered) up here in the States, but I doubt is any of them were imported into Australia????

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,
Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

I think Oliver1950 has nailed it. I don't know about Lombards but I do know that several Linns were imported into Queensland, mostly for hauling logs to the timber mills. At least one is restored and demonstrated at Truck shows in Brisbane.

I presume it is. I am sure there is a grey one up and going in SE Queensland as well.
The caption for the old photo above
Herbert Curry with a Linn tractor truck loaded with hoop pine in Villeneuve Queensland around 1929. The truck is a 100Hp six cylinder Linn ‘Haftrak’ with a Linn US-made chassis and local body. This vehicle was made specifically for the logging industry, often carrying far more than its load capacity of five tons. This vehicle still exists today and is often demonstrated at truck shows. NMP

Thank you everyone.. I learn something new each day on this website... I agree on the Holt.. I did not know Linns made it Down Under. I know they were still in business after WW 2. Lombards were a state / providence Maine, USA logging truck pulling sleds of logs on ice roads. There was a long topic on them on the old, now gone, Just Old Trucks website. I think they disappeared in the late 1920's???
