Irish Truck Show

I am currently in Ireland and managed to visit the big truck show at Dundalk north of Dublin. 150+ trucks. No USA based trucks except for one Kenworth imported as a show truck and a tired old Mack 700 single drive.

80% of the trucks on the road are Scania or Volvo with the rest made up of MAN, Renault and DAF. Surprisingly very few Mercedes. All trailers are tri-axle super singles.

Except for a couple of older English trucks there are no modern tandem drive prime movers. They are all single drive with lift-up lazy singles. Some of the singles are only 15". I have never seen a lazy on the ground so it would appear to be some sort of tax dodge. Many of the trailers also have one of the axles as a lift-up as well.

The heavy truck fleet is very well kept and they are well set up for driver comfort over long distances. We forget Europe is nearly as big as Australia and these guys go all over.

I saw many trucks at the show which concentrated mainly on 70-90 period but with some older gems. Trucks came from everywhere including England.

There were a large number of die-cast model sellers offering only commercial vehicle and farming/earth moving machinery models for sale
