Sometimes Sayings.

I got to the Morris Register weekend. My wife came on condition that we went in a "modern" car (only built in 2006) and that she drove. I had a great time with club members I knew. Had a great lunch in a pub owned by a collector of cars, and saw his collection of Rolls Royces, a modern Ferrari, Lancias, racing cars he had competed in and a Spanish built replica of a Type35 straight eight Bugatti. He told us that the Replica sold for $600,000 while a genuine one sold for $15 million. We extended our stay and scattered Grandma's ashes very close to where she was born. We timed our return home to take in my wife's Doctor's appointment on the Wednesday.  That saved us a return trip of at least 200 kilometres. That is the downside of living in a small town, over a hundred kilometres from the noise, smells and traffic of the suburbs.

My true story for this week is:-
In the past week I have been admitted to four different hospitals and the only problem I had was that in one hospital a Greek (I think) nurse asked me "do I have any bean?" I did not understand but after she had asked three times, I was able to say "Are you asking do I have any pain?" That was what she was asking.

That was not as bad as the experience of the father-in-law of my mate who was unable to get a Greek nurse to understand that raising the head of his bed put painful pressure on his ulcer. He said he was unable to get any other nurse to speak to him.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

I made an unconscionable mistake in last week's ramble. I both cases the nurse I referred to came from the India or Pakistan region, not from Greece. I don't know how I thought that. I woke up thinking about it yesterday morning.

This week's saying:-
Live as though you will die tomorrow,
learn as though you will live forever.

Attributed to Mahatma Ghandi.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Another one attributed to Mahatma Ghandi:-

You don't know what you have until you lose it.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Wasn't that Joni Mitchell in "Big Yellow Taxi"?

I knew I had heard "You don't know what you got till it's gone" in a pop song but I think Mahatma Ghandi said his version first.

You are probably right Morris. It is a true saying and I think Gandhi  may have been quoting Socrates from 2,000 years earlier.

Oh how I wish I had that E-Type Jaguar I sold for $3,000 in 1969

Not meaning to compound your depression Lang, but that three grand is equivalent to ~$25,750 today. Any E Type today is worth closer to $150,000 than $100.00.
I wonder what $3,000 deposited into a Commonwealth Bank saving account and left untouched until now, would be.

I didn't know Mahatma Ghandi did a version of Big Yellow Taxi, that would make Joni Mitchell's a cover version.
