Hi,
last month I was on a trip heading up the Canning Stock Route and due to water stopping us getting through, we were the first vehicles going south north for the season, we had to take a long few days detour to head out to Alice Springs to get home. About 5 minutes east of Gary Junction we came across this fairly recent wreck that had been pushed off the track. From what we could work out the Kenworth had broken down and had been picked up on the recovery tilt-tray and was on its way back to Western Australia when the dolly under the trailer caught fire which got into the Kenworth and burnt the fibreglass and melted the alloy. From the stacks back it was untouched. The tilt trailer looked like it cold be salvaged as it was only the hoses on the front that are no longer there.

God wouldn't that be an utter, utter bastard of a thing to happen.. a long way from anywhere, no phone service, no help, nothing. I guess all you could do would be try to unhook it, and stand back and watch. Then somehow let the owner of the truck know that not only has his truck broken down, it's burnt down too.... Not ideal.

Hi,
the burn marks on the road suggests just that, the driver has got out and unhitched the tilt trailer pretty much where he stopped and has moved up the road and a dozer has come along later and push the wreck sideways off the road. The smoke marks mostly vertical which suggest the fire was limited to the dolly until it parked and then the Kenworth has lit up.
We took a lot more pictures but on this camera most were over written by mistake. If one of the other guys shares his photos I will see what other angles there are of it.
