AT4 Help required was created by bobkat
Hello forum i have one of those jems everyone wants. i am the 2nd owner of a 1970 AT4 / 353 the truck was the Valvoline truck from Jerilderie in NSW. I am the 2nd owner, the truck is rust free and original, all electrics work.

My quest for help is as follows.
I want to change the front split rims so I can run radials.

( What rim types will fit this truck? ) size is 750 x 16 tyres on a 6 stud rim and wheel stud distance is 7.5 inches opp stud center to center.

Diff ratio change so 1st gear is usable and does not rev to high in 4th. Currently running slant 6 truck motor with factory extractors. I also have a new allow twin carb manifold.

I am in Logan city Queensland and want to make it more drivable.

I have found you don't steer old trucks so much as guide them in a general direction.

If everything is slop-free then you should be fine

Having lived through a pandemic I now understand all the painting of fat people on couches!

Dave

You will be lucky to find anyone that will weld centres from one wheel into another due to the legal requirements & insurance issues, the only way you might be able to do anything is maybe get Mullins to make you brand new complete wheels, Lots of $$$$$$.

you could try someone like showwheels they make billet rims and if you go for a style that you can have a big pattern on something like a smoothie which has a full smooth face it shouldnt matter to them what they drill the pattern too... there not the cheapest but not the dearest either they will be able to do it id think but just a matter of finding a style that you like.

Although they are not in your area, Eastern Wheel Works do wheel modifications.

I got some work done from them about 10 years ago and I was happy with them.

You could give them a ring and ask

Ok I'm getting somewhere now with these wheels. Can some one tell me the the exact wheel dimensions please? I know they are 16" bit offset amd thickness is all I need now. An American company sells the blanks and I can get them drilled here.

Righto chaps the next bit of gear I need to sort is the diff ratio. Anyone know what that is standard in the old bus. It is the slant 6 with a 4 speed.
