VicHung is probably right with 'Beaver' ... the number of letters after the first one look too many to be 'Hippo'.

The Leyland model names on the LAD cabs were written with the first letter in upper case and the rest of the name in lower case as Beaver, Hippo, Octupus etc, which is why I'm pretty sure that word must be Beaver.

There is the clincher: not just the length, but there were no descenders when I looked at the original, so clearly not Hippo.

They keep cropping up. More trucks in a working environment, and again cropped from a worksite photo by my contributor Jeff Bounds.
Just wait 25 years, and these will be the history photos for a new generation. All those wonderful b&w which appear as quiz photos were once ordinary working-day shots for somebody.

Melbourne Herald Sun used to have a regular section in its Friday auto supplement showing a classic vehicle with its owner; mostly a car; sometimes a truck I can't recall how regularly it ran a modern-truck section, but they are infrequent now. I also don't know if the article appears in interstate titles from the same stable. Here is an article on the new Scania V8, published on Fri.15.11.

A load of stormwater pipes arrived on site from Queensland today, behind a near-new Western Star. By gawd she was a smart looking rig!!
