Very nice indeed. Was it originally a gold grey?

Yes it was. As soon as I got it home, I researched the numbers. Very happy with my purchase.

from what I can see of the original picture it is between grey/red and gold/grey witch would make it a rare red/metallic silver grey model

From my research on the 'net:
A 4 cylinder technically called a Ferguson FE35. It was the model that followed the TE20 (the usual little grey Fergie). The company was Massey Harris Ferguson by then (1956) but the tractor was sold as a Ferguson. They weren't sold for long before MHF bought over Perkins engines and started to fit the 3 cylinder. The first of the FE35s were grey and gold but some of the later ones were painted red and grey. I think that once the 3 cylinder engine started to be fitted it was sold as a MF35 which later, with an uprating to the engine, became the 35x and then later still the MF135.
and:
The FE 35 had side badges that fit on to the bonnet where the battery sits. They attach by three holes. There is also a front badge that fits with two holes. No holes in the bonnet meant it may be a later red/grey one that was badged as a MF35 rather than FE35. They had stickers along the side instead of the metal badges. Check and see if it has any badge holes. Rumour has it that some dealers resprayed and re-badged the last of the FE35s and sold them as MF35s. The grey/gold was only on the go for about 18 months. I have definetly seen original red/grey 4 cylinders too.
The bonnet of the FE35 has two chrome bonnet push buttons to open the top centre panel.
Mine had the original gold under the grey paint.
The serial number also confirms gold/grey.
