PDU,
You certainly are up for a difficult and complicated job.
I am having enough trouble just restoring to original, a 1960 Morris WE three tonner. All that is left now (I hope) is stopping oil leaking from the oil filter on startup. I have taken the filter off at least ten times, taken the casting that bolts to the block and that the filter attaches to, off at least three times and replaced the filter once and the gasket three times. Taken the pressure relief (The manual calls it release) valve out twice, had to buy a complete filter to get a fourth gasket (Ryco would not sell a gasket separately) and hope that will solve the problem. An O-ring did not.
I have had a Marine Engineer and an Ex-British Leyland motor mechanic try to fix it.
This problem has taken away all my enthusiasm for the project and it will now have to wait for the weather to warm up a little.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Morris, we all have experienced these sort of dilemmas and when people ask what you've been doing what can you say other than, "Oh just fixing a leak with my oil filter." Sad but true, you have to experience it to understand that what might seem the simplest thing can become a world stopping disaster.

How about you blokes cleaning the crap off your projects that you've piled onto them, dust 'em off a bit, drag out a camera and post a picture so we can all be inspired again, including you Morris!

As I just commented to Dave64 on his blog, hang in there mate we're with you. Check the regular responders and those that read your posts - they are the ones that understand, and more power to them too.

AND the reason for this edit . . . I have also been waiting for an update on the Karrier for ages, so that includes you too Dave64.

Apologies grumpy gumpy, I should have mentioned that my rear doors use the composite plastic/aluminium material you were referring to.

They are screwed onto what would have been a bench top that I picked up cheap on Marketplace. There was no laminate on the bench top, just the base wood. Best part was the length was 2200mm which was exactly what I wanted to fit my 1100mm high doorway - ergo one cut, two doors.

Until it is eventually glued and screwed to the doors the composite material can be easily removed to lay flat when the urge to paint some more of the large INTAVA logo happens.

Meanwhile, having a roof on the turret needed to be done (sooner than later) and I am focusing on that at the moment. Today I took the plunge by cutting two holes in the fresh roof and tomorrow (hopefully) the mountings for the skylights will be fitted . . .

The (thin) roof is not as weak as I thought it might be, being reasonably well supported by the tube framework. My intention is to sandwich the roof (wood/steel sheet) between the mounting (the wooden bit inside the upturned skylight) and an aluminium frame beneath it inside. With some silastic around the mounting it is unlikely any water will get through.

Getting closer to a possible trial run cobbadog, but that's all. There are still heaps and heaps of unfinished jobs that will have to wait until after that.

I've been bumbling along with the skylights making some aluminium angle frames to stop the attachment screws pulling up into the three ply roof!  Satisfied with the outcome, despite not being able to buy some things that I needed from the Hardware shop. Sign on the shop door,  "Sorry closed today no internet"

Eventually I thought I'd better stop, sort out a late lunch, and make a start on yesterday's Men's Shed minutes . . . neither of which I managed to do as the dog decided I needed some exercise chasing him down the street!

He wanders straight across the road and doesn't give a toss about semis or buses coming through town  By the time I got back with him, I could barely walk and was hobbling along with him tethered to my belt rather than carry him home. Exercise? It was more like torture!

So much for actually eating my lunch, writing up the minutes, or working on the truck. Basically I'm shagged right now and Commers are a long way from being even a remote possibility.

Hope you are having a better afternoon than me. At least I've been able to eat my lunch while editing the errors I had written while in a negative condition . . .

It is a sad state of affairs, and an indictment on modern living when lack of internet is the cause of a shop closing. Or was that just an excuse or the boss to have a day off?

About 25 years ago, I was in the suburbs doing some shopping before attending a club meeting (I live over 100 kilometers away) when I decided to buy a slice of cake and a cup of coffee instead of an evening meal. I asked the two teenage girls at the coffee stall in the shopping centre if it was too late to get coffee. One of them said that the coffee machine was still working but the computer was down. I asked "Do you need a computer to make coffee these days?" She replied that you do not but they needed the computer to calculate the bill.  When I got the coffee and cake, one of the girls wrote down a sum $3.00
              + 3.50
             = $6.50
They were amazed that I had $6.50 in my hand.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
    my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
    I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Top half getting closer, skylights are in, plus extension panels at front and rear of the lift-up section are in place (although not shown in the photos below).

Side window covers were removed (yet again) and are now painted with the word INTAVA on them as planned. It took almost two hours to mask up the first one, and only about twenty minutes to do the second as I was able to use the same masking again! They are not fitted yet as I have a small amount of tizzying up to do on them, plus I need to finally screw the lower edge of the turret panels to the framework.

All the hexagonal tek screws, and a few extras, were replaced by lower profile Phillips head tek screws. I’ll only use pop rivets up here (or elsewhere) if any show signs of coming undone. After that the turret was treated to some paint using a small roller; very handy having the step plates along the sides. First coat done in about an hour, with no need for a roller tray, stirred with a stick and relayed onto the roof for a rollout (all paint on the roof with no drips anywhere else!).

Next time round I’ll extend the paint down to the step plates, and then lift the roof, so I can paint underneath back to the framework. Not up to roKWiz standard but satisfactory for my needs.

The rest of the weekend and Monday is a birthday celebration down in Adelaide for somne crazy old fart who has hit 75! No wonder I'm knackered, and basically the reason for the enforced R&R!?

Just catching up after being out of action for 3 months. What a wonderful job you have done for a complicated hand-built project.

Thank you for your interesting blow by blow account. I have absolutely no interest in light pommy trucks of this era but your regular problem solving stories have kept me highly interested in your project.

Well done, I await the first drive report.
