Lead Replacement additives?
I have used it for years and although I suspect the performance increase is maybe wishfull thinking the vehicles certainly start and run better.

I think you have to have some sort of permit to buy it? There was a scheme worked out a few years ago to make it available to members of classic car clubs, but you needed to keep a log book of some kind. How about Avgas ? 100 octane low lead.
Penrite make Valve Shield, which you can buy in "bulk" quantities (500 ml bottles.)

But to run the Avgas you need a fairly substantial compression ratio for it to be of benefit (Just my opinion)

Most fuel agents, normally the local aircraft workshop or flying school, are in business and the more sales the better. They are filling up cans for car people all the time. The burnout hoons in their hot WRX think it will give them more performance while in reality it is stuffing their high compression precision engines and of course instantly destroying their cat converters with the lead.
Aircraft engines are 1930's technology and nearly all can trace their direct line back 70 years. They are relatively low compression, very low RPM (most have to be stripped for inspection if they over rev - some as little as 3,000rpm) and very poor life. Most do not get to their total rebuild life of 1,800 - 2,500 hours without some major serious corrective work along the way.
The point is AVGAS is nothing special, it is only a couple of octane over normal premium petrol so is not going to make your car run better. It is a great source of old engine friendly lead in this lead free world. The extra you pay for a litre of AVGAS over MOGAS and all the stuffing around to get it makes a can of Flashlube/Moreys/Lucas etc pretty cheap and convenient.

the diesel in the petrol trick I was told about years ago and vice versa eg 1/3 diesel 2/3 petrol for petrol powered things and 1/3 petrol to 2/3 diesel for diesel powered things was for stopping the mold build up in the tank in the wet season I have never been brave enough to try it. When I get a head done up I always get the hardend valves and so far have had no problems but my trucks and things dont do a lot of miles each year so my experance is not much hope this is of some help cheers Paul
To stop the mould build up in the tank, and to remove moisture due to condensation etc., add methylated spirits to diesel ( or petrol ). I use about 250ml once a month to the tank in my diesel Merc sedan. Have done for over 20 years with every vehicle that I've owned.
